WELCOME! How can the Black Community, some forty-million strong in America, with a spending power of $900 billion dollars, and an African-American President in the White House - maximize our ability to capitalize on this historic moment? Our ancestor Malcolm X called on Blacks to "wake up, clean up, and stand up" as a people. There has never
been a better time to apply this sage advice. Even in the “Age of
Obama” the
evidence shows that racial profiling, targeted hate, bigotry, and
systemic
discrimination are not coming to a screeching halt. The recent “resignation” of Van Jones is just the latest example of the
challenges of advocating for change in As
a reader of The Bond Report, you know that we advocate for and applaud
the effective use of strategy and tactics. Our goal is to aggressively
use this type of orientation to achieve both psychological and economic
freedom for people of African descent. We need to mirror this
and "by any means necessary" mobilize our base. Black America
is
currently in a rut. |

Can A Middle Class, Suburban Family Lead a Black Power Movement? By Maggie Anderson My family made a choice, publicly, to spend as much money as possible with Black business owners and professionals. We made this decision and make this sacrifice because we believe Black people have too much talent and spend too much money for their community to look the way it does and for its families to suffer the way they do. We urge our community to practice self-help economics. We want our people to unite, in this positive and peaceful way, to counter social ills that disproportionately impact our people (recidivism, unemployment, gang activity and drug abuse, lack of education), by infusing wealth into underserved neighborhoods, creating more jobs, and providing role models for the youth. Sounds good ...right? Many people have violently criticized our pledge, our project, and our overall mission. Through hate-email, blogs, Facebook, letters to our home, we have been called racists and Nazis, and demeaning, malicious attacks have been lodged against us and our people. There
are those dismayed by EE's call for Blacks to leverage and engender
collective consumerism as a solution to our problems ... threatened by
EE's blatant refusal to continue to wait and rely on the largesse of
others or well-meaning government programs to trickle down...confused
by our public and proud choice to support our own genius and products.

African-American Community's KFC Boycott As has been widely reported, KFC offered its free grilled chicken promotion on the 'Oprah Winfrey Show,' but ultimately reneged on its promise and left millions of people in the lurch. The Fact Sheet notes that KFC's promotion included ads featuring African Americans dancing around and clucking like chickens for their "finger-lickin' chicken." The
same ad agency that was behind the Oprah Chicken Giveaway fiasco and
the ill-advised ad mentioned previously also used the song "Sweet Home
Alabama" - a song defending the Confederacy and Alabama's racist
history - to promote KFC, as reported by Business Week.
The Fact Sheet
further noted that Oprah has been the subect of racist ridicule,
including an image of the famous talk show host with a photo-shopped
bucket of KFC chicken on her head. A whopping 5.7 million coupons were not
honored.

Russell Simmons pulls
back his Yankees cap, zeroing in on the finer points of preppy style.
"This sweaters fly," he says, tugging at an argyle sweater vest in a
harlequin of yellow, purple and melon. Then his eye falls on a more
basic model. "This," he says, "could be Brooks Brothers." Argyle is a key element in his plot for sartorial dominaton-but not just any argyle .,. |

Workers are Often Cheated, Study Says By Steven Greenhouse "These
practices are not just morally represhensible, but they're bad for the
economy," said Annette Bernhardt, an author of the study and policy
co-director of the National Employment Law Project. "When unscrupulous
employers break the law, they're robbing families of money to put food
on the table, they're robbing communities of spending power and they're
robbing governments of vital tax revenues." ================ CONTACT US |
